  1. Founded by Ron Greco, Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney, the American Garage Rock band The Flamin' Groovies had their start in San Francisco in the mid Sixties. The debut album Supersnazz was released in , containing both re-creations of '50s Rock 'n Roll songs and more melodic tracks. It made the group one of the forerunners of the Power Pop movement of the '70s—a genre the Flamin' Groovies .

Its commercial failure put an end to the group's major-company record career. The Flamin' Groovies' debut album went almost directly into the cut-out bins within a year or so of its release.

  5. Oct 31,  · The Flamin' Groovies were a self-assured Garage Rock band from San Francisco that ran the gamut from dirty Rock n Roll to pristine Power Pop. A true cult band that were always considered to be in a double bind of playing the wrong kind of music at the wrong time, as well as not looking the part in an era dominated by the likes of The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane/5(6).
  6. The Flamin' Groovies ' debut album went almost directly into the cut-out bins within a year or so of its release. Fortunately, the band survived the neglect heaped on that record, and has survived in one form or another into the 21st century. And in the ensuing years, Supersnazz 9/
  7. Oct 01,  · Like many long-time fans of the Groovies, I was prejudiced against Supersnazz, even after I finally heard it. Of course, I eventually came to my senses and realized the richness which lied therein. For it was gonna be their own Sgt. Pepper, and damn if they didn’t kinda come close, in their own special rock n’roll way, mind you/5().
  8. Jun 02,  · The FLAMIN’ GROOVIES are great but I’ve always found it difficult to fully appreciate this album. The main reason is because the production is so slick. It makes CHEAP TRICK’S ‘In Color’ sound like WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT. The GROOVIES play their instruments well but the writing is a bit flat/5(11).
  9. Mar 26,  · The Flamin' Groovies major label debut, the already-old school rock & roll of Supersnazz entered the San Francisco pyschedelic milieu like a trouser cough in a crowded elevator. At the time, the Groovies' brand of trashy R&B revisionism was considered closer to the cheap nostalgia of Sha Na Na than the rock-as-art zeitgeist.4/5(3).
